Question/Comment:
Going to europe this summer and i want to have a good fitness base. What should be my ratio of anaerobic vs. aerobic per week? i want to train everyday like 3 times a day. Im training 2 times a day now but i want to take my game to the next level. What should my running consist of...what should my ratio be per week between aerobic, anaerobic, and speed training?
Thank you
Answer:
Andrew, I've been in your very shoes and know all the things that are going through your head these days. In terms of your fitness level no matter where you go tryout in Europe it needs to be extremely high. The last thing you want is to get here, be able to out play them and then fade away during a training session or match because you're coughing up a lung.
I'm not sure where your fitness level is at currently but i'll assume you have an average fitness base. You want to be doing approximately 3:1 aerobic training in the first couple weeks to build a base then after that 3:1 aerobic training. This is how professional teams in the 1st Division in Europe train and prepare themselves for upcoming pre seasons and seasons.
In terms of speed training that should always be the first thing you do to start any day of working out. Especially if you're going two or three times a day. The reasoning here is to develop speed the purpose is to increase the speed of your feet and your fast twitch. Meaning.... faster your legs move the better, and you don't get the same effect if you do it after a long day of working out and your fatigued, so speed first up to 4/5 times a week.
I would also suggest you read over the Professional Soccer Tryouts Page to understand what to expect while there.
Now Andrew if you really want to succeed at the pro level and you're serious about getting your fitness to the pro level and beyond then this 6 Week PRO Fitness Program is a must. It's taken from 1st Division Clubs in Europe and is exactly how the pro's prepare for their seasons.
Hope this information has helped. Good Luck this summer.

Question/Comment:
Hi I'm an 20year old player in south africa,I've played for SA under\14's and since been playing amateur due to lack of exposure.now I'm currently training on my own and I'm hoping to attend an tryout soon with pro.teams I'm wondering how should I prepare for the tryout?, How do I improve in my position as a midfielder?,What workouts are best to get you fit? What to do during the making good impression time? #hoping to hear from ya soon..
Answer:
Tshepiso you've asked a lot of great questions here. As important as preparing yourself physically is for a professional tryout, nothing is going to prepare you mentally for what you'll feel during the actual trial. You'll feel nervous, uncertain and a little on edge and these things are all completely normal while on your trial. The players that succeed at trials are physically and mentally strong to deal with whatever comes there way. So first understanding then expecting times of turmoil is the first step to being successful at a pro trial.
Now lets talk about increasing your fitness level. You want to go into the trial being among the fittest players there so your play can flourish and you're not left behind because you couldn't keep up physically.
The best way to do this is to have a training program you can follow day to day and week to week. I've created a 6 Week PRO Fitness Program that gets players like yourselves the chance to do high level workouts like the pros.
There are also pro level fitness workouts at Soccer Fitness page on my website.
Hope this has help you understand what to expect and how to deal with your trial, good luck.
